About Me

Since 2014 Jae'D has had the wonderful opportunity of teaching elementary, middle, and high school general, popular, and choral music in public and charter schools in Georgia and Florida. She currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Music Education- Choral at Kent State University.

Her research interests include Critical Race Theory and Black Feminist Thought with an emphasis on inclusion and implementation within music education pedagogical and research canon, as well as popular music education and community engagement to better inform current teaching philosophies and practices. She has presented her research at the Mountain Lake Colloquium, the International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, the International Society for Music Education, the Suncoast Music Education Symposium, and the Embodied Social Justice Summit.

She has a love for discovering new musical talent by venturing to independent artists' shows, networking, and simply putting people in the right places at the right time. As a former independent singer/songwriter, nurturing, developing, and co-visualizing with artists through action and support towards their next point of elevation remains one of her deepest passions and highest callings. When not dedicating her time to music, she is an avid traveler (usually to see a show), an active hiker, and a lover of slack-lining, baking and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
