About Me
Since 2014, Jae'D has had the privilege of teaching K-12 general, popular, and choral music in both public and charter schools across Georgia and Florida. She has also served as Assistant Professor of Music Education – Choral at Kent State University and currently works as Director of Experiential Programs at Berklee College of Music.
Her research interests focus on Critical Race Theory and Black Feminist Thought, specifically in relation to inclusion within music education curricula and research. She is also dedicated to advancing popular music education and community engagement to inform and transform contemporary teaching philosophies. Jae'D has shared her research at conferences such as the Mountain Lake Colloquium, International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, International Society for Music Education, Suncoast Music Education Symposium, and the Embodied Social Justice Summit.
A former independent singer/songwriter, Jae'D is passionate about discovering new talent, attending independent artist shows, and connecting creatives with opportunities for growth. Nurturing and collaborating with artists to help them reach their next level is one of her deepest passions. When she's not immersed in music, Jae'D enjoys traveling (often to catch a show), hiking, slack-lining, baking, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
